Conference Podcasts Through iTunes

We have now registered podcasts of the April 2008 General Conference in the iTunes store. We need people to search for them, comment about them, and use them so that their in-store ranking will improve, making it easier for people to find them.

I had already subscribed from the lds.org feeds page. But I’ll go subscribe from iTunes if that helps get the ranking up.

BTW, these feeds are nice! Thank you!

I just wish the MP4 videos were of a bit higher quality to view on a TV/projector, but I understand the tradeoff in file size may make that less desirable for many people.

You meant April instead of October, right?

This is an excellent idea, BTW.

# ldswebguy 15 Apr 2008

Yes, I meant April. I’ve now corrected it above.

Awesome! Thank you.

A question about the audio…are the priesthood sessions available via podcast? They are not available from the lds.org General Conference page, but they are included in the audio CDs.

As a Gospel Doctrine teacher, I often bring in my ipod with snippets of GC talks to illustrate the lesson.

When we were talking about race in Jacob, I wanted to play part of Pres. Hinckley’s excellent talk about race. But it was not available, even though it is quite recent, because it was at Priesthood.

What is the reasoning behind that?

I find great value in letting students hear the original speaker.

Question: I clicked on the link above for the audio feed, but it said that the podcast I requested was not available in the US iTunes store. What does that mean? Did I do something wrong? Thanks!

Naismith,
You are correct that you can view priesthood sessions on the DVDs or listen on the CDs that are available at Church distribution centers, but the Church doesn’t provide them online to the general public.

Since the priesthood session is a closed meeting, the Church does not provide the audio and video of the meeting to the general public on LDS.org. We hope that within a year, when LDS.org users will have the ability to log in, we will be able to provide audio and video of the priesthood session to authenticated priesthood holders.

Thanks for making an effort to respond, but this makes no sense to me.

So those of us who don’t hold the priesthood aren’t allowed to listen to those talks? In fact, we are often assigned to teach from some of those priesthood talks for a fourth-Sunday RS lesson, and it would be nice to listen in preparation or even play a snippet to the class.

I don’t understand how it is such a big difference whether it is in written in text (which is available on the web) versus the audio. I feel the audio is more accurate because it has inflections and non-verbal cues from the individuals themselves. It is the fairest representation of what was actually said.

Does this policy also suggest that the women of the church have no interest in the Perpetual Education Fund or the building of small temples, which were announced in General Priesthood?

Why is priesthood meeting closed, but Relief Society General Meeting “open”? We’re supposed to be “members” of an organization, so shouldn’t that also be “members only”?

I totally respect the meeting itself being priesthood only, but afterward, why cannot we hear the talks that present doctrine from which we will be judged and which affects our lives?

A few months ago, I was at a stake youth fireside where the speaker asked the young men about a talk from General Priesthood. When none of the young men raised their hands, a young woman provided the answer, and the speaker was able to make his point, which applied to youth of both genders, or he would not have been discussing it in such a venue. But you’re saying she should not have read that talk?

I’m not a feminist, but this feels like a major Slap In The Face to me. Very ugly.

We had a few problems for the first few weeks with these podcasts. If you have not been able to get all the files to download, you can delete your current subscription and resubscribe to the podcast and it should work fine.
