As I have looked over some of the comments recorded in the blog, I have been very impressed by the many suggestions. I have on my iPod several podcasts from church sources such as the Ensign, General Conference and the Priesthooc/Relief Society lesson manual. I enjoy listening to each of them very much, especially when I have to work about 26 Sundays a year. On those Sundays, I am thankful for those podcasts. The one thing that I would like to listen to as well would be Music and the Spoken Word. I have noticed that this idea was first recorded on this blog site back in 2006 so I am wondering where this suggestion stands at this time? Is the Church thinking about making a podcast available to download and if so, how soon could we expect to get it?

And how many of those 7,000 text messages were of any substantive value? I'm guessing at that level of volume there's a lot of noise and time wasting going on.

I have a friend in my singles ward who does 10,000 to 12,000 in a month. Even at 7,300 a month, thats an average of one text every 6 minutes, all day long.

I've seen a number of presentations like these on youtube. mikebatie has created a number of videos with photos & quotes about temples (http://youtube.com/watch?v=w855OEejpZQ) accompanied by LDS music tracks. SethAdamSmith has also been quite prolific in producing these (i.e. http://youtube.com/watch?v=pH-hef7jfcs).

I've thought about doing something like this, but have wondered whether this falls under fair use, or if licensing should be obtained from the copyright holders of the artwork and music.

That being said, I think these montages fit well in a medium like youtube that is built on viral sharing of content like this.

I placed this comment elsewhere in your blog but perhaps it fits better here. My wife and I have noticed slow download speeds with LDS.org with an otherwise working Comcast internet connection. Over the past few months we have typically seen speeds as "slow" as 50KB/sec) where most of 2007 we enjoyed speeds that were 5X as fast. We enjoy downloading the video of conference talks and as silly as it sounds, are a bit bothered by the slow speeds. Before we went to complain to Comcast, we wondered if there was something occurring on LDS.orgs end (perhaps some sort of cap on speeds)?

The speeds are at their best in the early morning.

Larry,

Do you know if there is an issue with download speeds on lds.org? I would say within the last few months, my wife nor I have been able to download conference talks at speeds greater than about 50 KB/sec. All last year we were able to download at at least 5X that speed. Is traffic being throttled somehow on your end? We have Comcast as a provider - I do not think that they are throttling traffic from lds.org (but I would not be surprised in the least if so).

Any insight would be appreciated before I go and complain to Comcast.

A Church trademark is its commitment to emergency preparedness, provident living and preparing for catastrophe. How well are the information systems prepared for an extended (2 week) Wasatch front power failure? Specifically, what is the recovery time objective for the MLS system in such a scenario?
